P!NK zeigt ausgestreckten Mittelfinger mit Protest-Hymne „Irrelevant“ als Antwort auf die US-Abtreibungsdebatte
Juli 14, 2022Nach ihrem ersten politischen Song „Dear Mr. President“, einer Ansage an Ex-US-Präsident George W. Bush aus 2006 & übrigens mit 39 Wochen der am längsten in den dt. Singlecharts platzierte P!NK Song aller Zeiten, veröffentlicht Superstar P!NK heute einen weiteren politischen Protest-Song mit dem Titel „Irrelevant“ als musikalische Antwort auf die US-Abtreibungsdebatte und das aktuelle gesellschaftliche Klima.
Nachdem der oberste US-Gerichtshof Ende Juni das historische Urteil von 1973 im Fall Roe v. Wade aufgehoben hatte und somit das Abtreibungsrecht in USA neu definierte, meldete sich P!NK mit entschlossener Ablehnung bei ihren Socials zu Wort und diskutierte dazu mit Fans als auch Hatern bei Twitter. Hier einige Auszüge ihrer Statements:
„Let’s be clear: if you believe the government belongs in a woman’s uterus, a gay person’s business or marriage, or that racism is okay – THEN PLEASE IN THE NAME OF YOUR LORD NEVER FUCKING LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AGAIN. AND ALSO FUCK RIGHT OFF. We good?“
„I think all of our nerves are collectively fried from so many years of racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. +pandemics, mass shootings, wars and the total lunacy, hypocrisy, ignorance of the GOP – it’s all a bit much. But we will stick together. Good will prevail over evil. And to all of you sad, old white men asking me if I still make music. I realize you’re our of touch – so ask your kids… Oh wait – you can’t. They hate you.”

Nachdem Kritiker sie schließlich online als „irrelevant“ bezeichneten und sie doch einfach „ruhig sein und singen solle“, ging P!NK ins Studio um tatsächlich über die aktuelle Situation einen Song aufzunehmen. Die Lyrics ihres neuen Songs „Irrelevant“ sprechen für sich:

Der Song wurde von P!NK und Ian Fitchuk (Birdy, Harry Styles, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris uvm.) geschrieben und markiert die erste Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Künstlerin und dem mit einem Grammy ausgezeichneten Produzenten und Songwriter.
P!NK über den neuen Song: „Als Frau mit einer eigenen Meinung und der Furchtlosigkeit, diese Meinung auch zu äußern, ist es sehr ermüdend, wenn die einzige Erwiderung darin besteht, mir zu sagen, wie irrelevant ich bin. Ich bin relevant, weil ich existiere und weil ich ein Mensch bin. Niemand ist irrelevant. Und niemand kann mir meine Stimme nehmen!“

Mit Fokus auf die Interessenvertretung der Wähler unterstützt P!NK die Organisation When We All Vote und kündigt an, dass ihre Einnahmen aus „Irrelevant“ an die von Michelle Obama gegründete nationale, überparteiliche Wahlinitiative gehen werden. Die Interessenvertretung, deren Aufgabe es ist, die Kultur rund um den Wahlprozess zu verändern, versucht, die Beteiligung an jedem Wahlzyklus zu erhöhen, indem sie dazu beiträgt, Rassen- und Altersunterschiede zu schließen. Bis heute wurden mehr als 100 Millionen Menschen über den Wahlprozess aufgeklärt, was zu einer erhöhten Wählerregistrierung geführt hat.
Der Aufruf zum Widerstand geht in „Irrelevant“ weiter, indem P!NK ihre Fans auffordert, aktiv zu werden und sich für ihre Rechte einzusetzen.
